Shabana has written to the Home Secretary Theresa May to demand a public inquiry into the three deaths of Haroon Jahan, Shazad Ali and Abdul Musavir who were killed trying to defend their local business from looters in August 2011. In the letter to the Home Secretary, Shabana writes that a full public inquiry is needed to get to the truth of the matter of what happened on August 10th 2011. The initial trial lead to eight men being prosecuted, but none convicted in a trial which almost collapsed because of issues with the police investigation. Yesterday (7/5/2014) the Independent Police Complaints Commission published its report into the West Midlands police investigation. Shabana has commented saying; “It is clear to me that this report is a failure. From the inception of its restricted terms of reference through to its conclusion it serves no one. The families of these men are no closer to justice and the West Midlands Police cannot say this report helps them serve our communities better”. Shabana’s request for a public inquiry has also received the support of the call from the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Bob Jones.
